Kat (aka The Diva)

Also known as Magic Kat; Miss Kitty; Kitty Kat; Katarina and more! Kat arrived here with her little buddy, Stewie in September 2022. Their previous owners adopted them from another local rescue around 10 years before but due to health issues, were forced to relinquish them. Kat has a hoof condition called navicular and needs corrective shoes that tip her onto her toes, like high heels. We had done everything possible to minimize her pain and nothing seemed to be working. We had almost run out of options, when our vet suggested a “last ditch effort'“ of a neurectomy surgery - where they cut out part of her nerves leading to her front hooves, effectively eliminating all feeling (good or bad) to her feet. It could last 1-4 years of pain-free living. We gave it a try and she is like a whole new horse! Running, playing and cheerful attitude! She loves her life here at the rescue and has lots of friends within the herd. She also thrives on TLC from the volunteers, and likes to be a part of the volunteer training, as a calm model. She is Grey Quarter Horse that was trained well but cannot be ridden due to her hoof issues.
